Alumni Career Advice

There is a rich history of athletics here in Concord on Galaxy Court, dating back to 1995. At a time where youth programs in schools were facing cuts in funding, CYC was born. Over the years, the CYC has continued to adjust and grow its programs and facilities to address the varied and changing needs of our community. Through the quality programs offered at the CYC, today’s youth develop the dedication, discipline, and desire to excel in education, athletics and life experiences. Our ability to positively impact the lives of the local youth in our community heavily relies on the support we receive from our surrounding community, and YOU — our alumni. This page gives you a chance to connect with past, present, and future CYC members.
Testimonials
“CYC was much more than just a place for me to train growing up. It instilled so many great traits in me. It taught me how to hold myself accountable for things that did not go my way, it taught me to have the hardest work ethic you can have, and it taught me discipline. It is easy to say that the CYC always had me on the right path. It pulled the best out of me. It’s a great culture full of great people who want nothing but the best for you. When you put kids in an environment like that, it is impossible to fail. I always felt safe and welcomed. It was a place I could express myself freely and never be ashamed of who I was. The CYC is what molded me into what I am today.”

“CYC played a very important role in my life growing up. CYC was a place that provided me structure outside of normal school hours and an engaging environment where I could always make productive use of my time. Whether it was doing homework in the Academic Excellence Room, learning how to powerlift in the weight room or working hard during wrestling practice, not a moment of my time was spent unsupervised or without purpose. Regardless of the activity, I was always learning valuable life skills such as discipline, empathy, respect, and the ability to get along well with others. Some of my fondest memories and best friendships were formed during my time at CYC and, looking back, I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to such a great place as a kid.”

“CYC created a foundation for me. The lessons I learned in the boxing program translate to my everyday life. Going to practice and showing up on time built consistency in my life and allowed me to form proper habits. These habits I learned at CYC I still use to this day. Whether it’s going to school, studying for a test, or going to work, the foundation I created through CYC made me into the person I am today. I don’t see CYC as a gym, I see it as a second home, I see it as a family. The coaching staff in the boxing program pushed me beyond my limits since the age of 8 and I couldn’t have made it this far in my career without their continuous support.”
— Kevin Montano
“CYC not only helped me achieve academic success, but also helped me to foster important relationships in the programs that I had the opportunity to participate in. The tutors and academic advisors helped me excel in my classes by bettering my time management skills and instructing me towards the mastery of my course materials. By participating in boxing, I learned the significance of fitness on my productivity in all aspects of my life, allowing me to manage my many responsibilities as a college student at UC San Diego in a healthy and sustainable way. My experiences at CYC not only made me a better student, but also a more well-rounded individual.”
