Looking for Soccer That Grows With Your Child?
It's common to feel unsure about where to start, especially when many programs focus on short seasons or volunteer-led play. Families across Concord and nearby areas want something more consistent, where kids can develop at their own pace without feeling rushed or overlooked. Community Youth Center offers structured, coach-led soccer designed for ages 3 through 18, with clear progression from early play to advanced development. With families joining from
Pleasant Hill,
Walnut Creek,
Martinez, and
Antioch, this program gives kids a steady path forward while keeping training consistent and purposeful.
Soccer Course Structure by Age
CYC soccer develops players from first touch through advanced tactical training, with session length, frequency, and focus areas scaled specifically to each age group.
Ages 3–4 (Introduction to Soccer)
An introduction to soccer through games and guided play. Children build balance, coordination, and comfort with the ball in a fun, low-pressure setting.
Session length: 25 minutes, once per week. Focus: confidence, coordination, and enjoyment.
Ages 5–6 (Fundamentals)
A blend of fun and fundamentals. Kids begin learning basic technical skills like dribbling and shooting through games that keep a ball at their feet nearly the entire class.
Session length: 40 minutes, up to three times per week. Focus: motor control, ball familiarity, and teamwork.
Ages 7–8 (Skill Development)
Athletes learn more advanced footwork and ball control techniques, including passing, trapping, and shooting with accuracy and power.
Session length: 55 minutes, up to three times per week. Focus: technique, balance, and confidence-building.
Ages 9–10 (Advanced Development)
Students begin applying tactics, learning how to read the field and recognize numerical advantages and defensive situations through small-sided games.
Session length: 70 minutes, three times per week. Focus: technical improvement and tactical awareness.
Ages 11–13 (Advanced Development)
Training shifts toward faster, game-speed execution. Students explore formations, positional roles, and the fundamentals of attacking and defending, with an equal split between technical refinement and tactical application.
Session length: 85 minutes, twice per week. Focus: decision-making, game tempo, leadership, and competitive mindset.
Extra Classes
Specialized sessions are available alongside the core age-group structure for players who want additional development in specific areas.
Girls Only training is offered on Tuesdays. Boys and Girls Goalkeeper training runs on Thursdays. Futsal Technical Training is available on Fridays.

Why CYC Soccer Is Different
Coach-Led, Not Volunteer-Run
Programs like AYSO Concord provide important recreational opportunities but rely on volunteer coaching that can vary in consistency. CYC soccer is led by trained coaches who follow a structured curriculum and developmental progression at every age level.
Year-Round Training
Seasonal leagues reset every few months. Year-round training at CYC means players build on what they learned instead of starting over each fall or spring.
Academic Component Included
Every CYC membership includes required homework and tutoring time before sports participation, a structure no local league offers. Families who want both academics and athletics handled in one place do not have to choose between them.
One Membership for Multiple Programs
Soccer is included in CYC's all-access membership, giving families the option to pair it with gymnastics, boxing, wrestling, or any other program without additional fees.
Private Lessons
Take your game to the next level with one-on-one instruction from a CYC soccer coach. Private lessons focus on personalized development in technique, positioning, and overall performance.
CYC Rec Tournament
Join fellow players for our recreational tournament events — open to all youth participants in the CYC Soccer Program. For dates and details, contact Coach Brandon.

Ready to Get Your Child Started With Soccer?
Most families reach a point where they want something more consistent and structured than seasonal leagues. Community Youth Center provides a steady environment where kids can grow their skills while staying engaged and supported.
What to Expect From Start to Finish
Starting a soccer program should feel simple and organized, not complicated. At Community Youth Center, families know what to expect from the first visit through ongoing development.
From the moment your child joins, they are placed into the age-appropriate group that matches their developmental stage, beginning with coordination-focused fundamentals for the youngest players and progressing through increasingly structured technical and tactical training. Session length and frequency scale with age, from 25-minute introductory classes for three and four year olds through 85-minute advanced sessions for teens. Coaches guide each step consistently so players understand what they are learning and why it matters. Families leave with a clear routine that supports both development and confidence, and can supplement soccer with academic support or additional programs through the same membership.
