Looking for a Flexible Start in Gymnastics?
Many families worry that gymnastics means committing to expensive studio programs with limited flexibility. Across Concord and Contra Costa County, parents are often looking for something more adaptable, especially when their child is just starting out or wants to explore multiple activities. Community Youth Center offers gymnastics for kids as part of one all-inclusive membership, giving families access to structured classes without being locked into a single program. From our Concord facility, families from Pleasant Hill, Brentwood, Antioch, Walnut Creek and surrounding areas benefit from a setup that also connects naturally with options like after-school programs and Academic Excellence for a more complete routine.
Gymnastics Classes by Age
CYC's gymnastics program is structured around your child's developmental stage, with classes designed specifically for each age group and maintained at low student-to-coach ratios to ensure personalized instruction and safety.
Mommy and Me (Age 2)
A parent-assisted introduction to movement and early development. Sessions include structured circle time, sensory play, and obstacle courses that build gross and fine motor skills in an encouraging environment. Caregivers participate throughout the class.
Tiny Tots (Age 3)
An introduction to gymnastics for our youngest athletes. Students learn basic skills, follow directions, take turns, and practice teamwork while gaining confidence and independence in a structured setting.
Tumble Tots (Ages 4–5)
Building on fundamentals, Tumble Tots learn basic skills across each gymnastics event and continue developing coordination, confidence, and focus. Class size is maintained at a 6:1 student-to-coach ratio for individualized attention.
School Age Levels 1–7 (Ages 6 and Up)
Students progress through seven structured levels that teach balance, flexibility, coordination, and strength. Each level includes four components with ten skills each, and an 8:1 student-to-coach ratio is maintained. Progress is tracked using CYC Skill Cards so students and parents can monitor advancement and celebrate achievements over time. Once a gymnast completes at least seven skills per component, they advance to the next level in the following session.
Why CYC Gymnastics Is Different
Included in One Membership
Gymnastics at CYC is part of the all-access membership, not a separate enrollment at per-class studio pricing. Families pay one monthly fee and access gymnastics alongside every other program CYC offers.
Value No Studio Program Can Match
Dedicated gymnastics studios charge per class or per session. At CYC, gymnastics is bundled with academic support, multiple sports, and flexible programming, offering significantly more access at a lower overall cost.
Structured Progression With Progress Tracking
The seven-level School Age system and CYC Skill Cards give students and parents a clear picture of where athletes are and where they are going, removing the guesswork from development.
Early Entry, With or Without Experience
Classes begin at age 2 with parent assistance and progress into fully independent instruction through the school-age levels. No prior gymnastics experience is required at any entry point.
Registration and Session Details
Gymnastics at CYC operates on a session system, with each session lasting eight to nine weeks. Enrollment is first come, first served, and participants are automatically re-enrolled for the following session once enrolled.
A $40 setup fee applies per student and covers the first month. Autopay is required, and class enrollment begins the following month after registration.
Ready to Get Your Child Started in Gymnastics?
Many families reach a point where they want a simple, flexible way to introduce their child to movement and structure. Community Youth Center provides a supportive environment where kids can start early, build confidence, and explore more as they grow.
What to Expect From Start to Finish
Getting started with gymnastics should feel simple and encouraging, especially for younger children. At Community Youth Center, each step is designed to build confidence while keeping the experience structured and positive.
Children are grouped by age and placed into the appropriate class, beginning with Mommy and Me or Tiny Tots for the youngest athletes and moving through Tumble Tots and the seven School Age levels as they grow. Coaches guide each session with consistency, and progress is tracked using CYC Skill Cards so parents always know where their child stands. As confidence grows, children can explore additional programs that support their development across different areas. Families benefit from a routine that balances physical activity with options like after-school programs for a more complete schedule.

Program Hours and Policies
Gymnastics classes are offered Monday through Saturday, with sessions available for all age groups. Specific class times and current level availability are listed in the CYC Class Schedule.
To ensure a safe and positive experience for all participants, students must arrive on time for every class. Students who arrive more than five minutes late may not be permitted to participate, as completing the warm-up is required by CYC's insurance policy. Only registered gymnasts are allowed in the training area during class. Parents and non-registered students must remain outside the gym for safety and insurance compliance. To maintain active registration and priority enrollment, gymnasts must attend at least 75% of each session. For an eight-week session, this means no more than two absences are permitted.
