March 2010

February was an exciting month here at CYC for wrestling. On Saturday, February 6 we sent six kids from our middle school class to the North Coast Kids Classic in Windsor, CA. Kailen Kelly placed sixth and Michael McDaniel placed fifth in very tough weight classes. Teammate Edward Bond brought home a third place medal. Patrick Ramirez and Nathan Cervantez were the two front-runners for the team as both placed first in their respective weight class. The next weekend we sent six kids to the St. Valentines Day Massacre on February 14 at Vacaville High School. Edward Bond brought home another bronze medal; meanwhile, Michael McDaniel placed second. Teammates Jonathon Fitzpatrick, Patrick Ramirez, Andrew Cervantez and Nathan Cervantez all brought home gold medals.
Coming up we will be sending kids to the Tournament of Champions in Loomis on March 13. This is the premier tournament in California for middle school wrestlers. The following weekend we will be at the Kids Folkstyle State Championships in Fresno. Then to round out the month, CYC will be hosting the annual freestyle and greco-roman tournament on March 27.
Also, as we move into March, we will be transitioning into our new spring schedule and term 3 of our middle school and high school level 2 wrestling teams. We are currently taking applications for these classes from now until March 15. These classes are commitment-based, and are designed for advanced wrestlers who will be competing at regional and national level competitions later this year.
Wrestling Student of the Month is Bradey Wittenmeier. Bradey has been showing a lot of promise in the middle school wrestling class. He has been showing up everyday for the past couple of months, and he is really starting to improve.
