Gymnastics is a sport that requires strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, gracefulness and much more.  Children are movement explorers who climb, swing, jump and tumble as they become physically confident.  In the CYC gymnastics program, we strive to "fall-proof" children so they learn to jump and land correctly.  We "armor" each child with body awareness and improved self-esteem while creating success opportunities for them in our programs.  Most importantly, our CYC gymnasts learn respect for their capabilities and how to work safely and cooperatively in the gym.

The CYC gymnastics program emphasizes certain common goals:

  1. To provide a fun and supportive atmosphere in which the children can   experience maximum growth.
  2. To stress development of self-esteem and self-confidence by designing skills at which the child will be successful.
  3. To lead children in exploring and learning motor skills that directly relate to gymnastics, thus preparing a strong background in basic skills.
  4. To help younger children practice and develop social skills including waiting for turns dealing with other children, and language skill including knowing colors, counting, and directions (up, down, across, over, under, etc.).
Class Structure

The CYC recreational gymnastics program is divided into two different age groups and skill levels (Dyno Kids Program and Basic Gymnastics Program).

The Dyno Kids program is for girls and boys ages 3 to 5. This fun-filled program, which meets in both the morning and afternoon hours, leads children in exploring and learning motor skills that directly relate to gymnastics. In addition, the skills learned help improve each child’s reading readiness.

The Basic Gymnastics program, for youth ages 6 to 18 years old, is an introduction to gymnastics, but for a little older age. Forward rolls, backwards rolls, cartwheels and handstands will be the main part of this class on floor. They will also have some time each week to use other equipment like trampoline and balance beam. In these classes a variety of gymnastic skills are taught. Our Basic Gymnastics program is in its infancy as we find more space to expand. Until more space is built out, most of the skills taught are for the floor and tumbling. We have weekly themes that involve the gymnast to make the classes more fun and exciting.

At the CYC, we try to offer more than just a place for recreational gymnastics. We try to provide a positive learning experience for your son or daughter. To allow each child's development in a safe and positive manner our classes have a desired 8 to 1 student-teacher ratio (6 to 1 for the Dyno Kids program). Each gymnast is allowed to progress at his or her own pace.
