The CYC boxing program is the cornerstone and oldest program at the Center. Over the years, the CYC has produced some outstanding boxers and continues to do so today. But more importantly, the boxing program has taught and developed core values in young boys and girls that will help them in all areas of their lives. The coaching staff proudly teaches the values of respect, camaraderie, tenacity, sportsmanship, honor, and especially the three D's of the CYC: Discipline, Dedication, and Desire. More >

July 2008

The boxing team stayed close to home this month with competitions in Gilroy and San Francisco. On June 14, CYC boxers participated in a show at the Italian Dinner Club in San Francisco. Daniel Thomas and Eric Altamirano had a great showing, both winning their bouts. Eric also left that night with the “Best Bout” title. He then followed up with a win the next weekend (June 21) at Monster Park in San Francisco. The team then headed to The Elks Lodge on the Hill in Gilroy for a show on June 28.
July will bring more travel for the team. For the week of July 15, the team will head down to the Annual Desert Showdown in Indio, CA. This is always a great time for the kids as they get a chance to drive into Palm Springs for some sight seeing. On July 25, CYC will once again host the main event for a Private Show in Sacramento. The Sutter Club event may be better known as the Rooftop Rumble but to the members of the club it is always a hit.
We would like to congratulate the newest member of the boxing program to receive their license. Ernesto Prieto received his USA Boxing license this month which entitles him to travel and compete with the team. Congratulations Ernesto!
