| The CYC boxing program is the cornerstone and oldest program at the Center. Over
the years, the CYC has produced some outstanding boxers and continues to do so today.
But more importantly, the boxing program has taught and developed core values in
young boys and girls that will help them in all areas of their lives. The coaching
staff proudly teaches the values of respect, camaraderie, tenacity, sportsmanship,
honor, and especially the three D's of
the CYC: Discipline, Dedication, and Desire. More > |

June 2011

An impressive month for the Boxing Program, many athletes made great achievements recently. On Wednesday, May 18 Jose “Fluffy” Delgado was honored at the annual Cal High Shorts Awards Banquet. He was presented with a scholarship for his education. Also, the competitive team is getting ready for the upcoming events at Scott’s in Oakland, USA Regionals and Nationals. Eric Altamirano will compete on May 28 in Fresno at the USA Regionals. If he wins his bout, he will advance to the USA Men’s Nationals in Colorado Springs from June 20-26. The top two competitors at nationals will qualify for the Olympic trials.
Luis Escudero won his last bout, bringing his record to an unbeaten 3-0. When he started competing, he was in the 165 lb. division, and after many months of hard work, he has started to compete at 119 lbs. For his hard work and dedication to boxing, he is the Boxing Athlete of the Month. Congratulations Luis! |
