In addition to offering ten sports, CYC has two fully equipped and staffed Academic Excellence rooms, one for students from kindergarten through 6th grade and one for 7th to 12th grade students. Our objective is to help student athletes be successful in the classroom by providing a safe and quiet environment in which to study and learn. CYC staff stresses the importance of education on a consistent, supportive and daily basis. We have computers, work spaces and tutors on staff to assist students who need help.
Our rooms are designed to be quiet and productive work spaces for students to complete their homework, get extra practice and develop social skills. We offer an independent, group classroom with dedicated tutors and volunteers available for those who need assistance. We advocate the importance of good study habits, time management and responsibility.
Both CYC classrooms are staffed and fully equipped with computers, printers, books and school supplies. CYC also provides several incentive programs including the Report Card Program, where students' good grades, outstanding citizenship and overall improvement are recognized and the Read-a-thon program, which raises money for the AE Program, while simultaneously keeping youth involved in reading and life-long learning. Parents are allowed only in the AE room for the younger students in Building Three if they are assisting their child with homework and if there are still available seats for students to use.
The classrooms are available from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday. AE does not have scheduled classes; instead, the program is designed for students to do homework around their sports, classes and other commitments. Note: Extended hours for high school students occur as necessary based on need, schedule and tutor availability.
