The CYC is designed to attract youth and offer them a place to learn and train in athletics. Once involved in the CYC's various athletic programs, we help the students balance their educational and sport activities by providing an environment suitable for educational activities. The CYC staff stresses the importance of education on a consistent, supportive and daily basis. More > |

April 2010

Spring has sprung in the Academic Excellence
Program! Year to date, our attendance is up almost
20% and we have welcomed twenty-five new
students to our program in the past month. The
Kaplan SAT review course in the big AE room
started in March with sixteen students enrolled in
the class preparing for the May 1 SAT exam.
Summer is just around the corner, and we are
planning the AE summer camps. They are going to
be the weeks of June 28, July 5 and August 2. The
first camp will have an animal theme, including a
trip to Grizzly Island and a visit from the SPCA. The
second week will be a culture camp, including a trip
to the Asian Art Museum and Rush Ranch. The final
week of AE camp will be the first ever leadership
camp, a week geared toward equipping junior high
and high school students with life skills such as First
Aid and CPR, financial training, and information
concerning college and university. Watch for flyers
and emails. Sign up early for plenty of fun this
summer.
The AE Student of the Month is Akbar Alcozai. A
new addition to the program this year, Akbar has
stormed into the little AE room. His dedication and
body of work is impressive for such a young
student. He is nearly always working, is rarely
distracted and is preparing himself well for when he
moves into the big room and eventually into high
school. Congratulations Akbar, and keep up the
hard work. |
