  Joe Coniglio
  Program Director, Outdoor Activities

Joe Coniglio, the newest member of the CYC team, joined the staff as Outdoor Activities Program Director in April 2008. He is responsible for the off-site activities run at Rancho Esquon, Camp Concord, Camp Nejedly, Grizzly Island and trips on the 'Flying A' boat. Coniglio will introduce adventuresome field trips and summer camp programs where children can learn about environmental conservation while doing various fun and educational outdoor activities.

Coniglio graduated from Los Medanos College with an Associate of Science Degree in Biology in 1998 and has been working in the biotechnology industry for more than seven years. He began his career in biotechnology at Genentech in the Biochem department and was most recently a Quality Assurance Inspector at BioZoneLabs.

Born and raised in Pittsburg, California, Coniglio was introduced to the outdoors at a young age. An avid hunter, fisherman and scuba diver, he has experienced dives at some of the world's most beautiful waters, such as the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary, the Mendocino County Coastline, Oahu and various islands in the Mediterranean. A former coach for the Pittsburg Junior Football League for four years, Coniglio also was a counselor for the "Pros for Kids" program.

Coniglio will work closely with Lauren Healy, now the Academic Excellence Program Director, who set the foundation for the Outdoor Activities program. The Academic Excellence and Outdoor Activities programs will be closely intertwined to expose youngsters to nature and the outdoors through classroom and field experiences.
