The Community Youth Center, above, was packed with martial arts students, their friends, families
and residents for the recent grand opening celebration of the CYC’s Martial Arts Center. A
group of tae kwon do students demonstrate their skills for the audience crowded around the practice
mats. The youth center has added tae kwon do, as well as judo, to the sports activities
it offers. At night, judo students Hayg Astourian, 15, top, and Ronald Shin, 21, demonstrate
martial arts maneuvers at the opening of the Martial Arts Center at the CYC, where youths ages
14-18 can participate in nine recreational programs, aw well as an academic excellence center.
