Community Youth Center
Corporate Backgrounder

The Community Youth Center (CYC) is a state-of-the-art sports and academic Center where youth ages 3 to 18 thrive in a dynamic and positive environment. A one million dollar gift from The K.H. Hofmann Foundation opened the CYC in September 1995 to provide such a place for the youth of Concord and the surrounding communities. Each year, the Center has continued to grow with more than 1,100 members participating today. The CYC offers 10 recreational programs, as well as an academic excellence center. Combined, these programs help members manage their time effectively so they can become even better students and athletes. More >

July 2008

CYC and the CWA teamed up to offer a shooting clinic on June 14 and 25. Members of CYC along with the kids from the CWA learned the importance of gun safety as well as shotgun patterns. The kids had a chance to participate in target practice and learn the basics of archery. The focus of the clinic was on all aspects of responsible hunting.
CYC campers headed to Camp Concord in South Lake Tahoe on June 16. They enjoyed nature hikes, canoeing and singing songs by a crackling campfire under a sea of stars. The campers even participated in the infamous Polar Bear Swim, it’s an early 6:30am swim at Baldwin Beach in Lake Tahoe fallowed by hot cocoa. The learning and activities never quit and included lessons in Volleyball, Yoga, Soccer and Swimming.
Ladies and Gentlemen we have a winner. It was a very difficult decision to make as many campers deserved the title, but Merik Graciani seamed to stand out just a little more. Merik was an outstanding camper and hiker. He participated in all events with the willingness to learn as much as he can. He could really be an incredible hiker someday, good job Merik.
