Discipline, Dedication and Desire are three powerful words, especially
to the student athletes at the Community Youth Center. The three “D’s” are
character qualities the CYC coaching staff instills in its students
every day through sports and academics. These efforts are all
in hopes of “Building Champions in Life.”
The ultimate goal of the CYC is to help youngsters develop inner-strength
and self-confidence to become responsible and productive adults.
The CYC can only do this with your continued help. Currently,
the CYC serves more than 1,100 students. You can make a difference
for one of these by participating in the CYC “Fund A Kid” program. Your
$20 donation will fund a child for one whole month. If you give $100,
you help provide a scholarship for five months and with a $240 donation,
you have given a child a year full of memories to help build champion
qualities.
Your generous contributions to CYC will continue to help provide children,
teenagers and young adults with the sports and academic programs necessary
to help provide the foundation of future leaders and productive citizens.
In January 2007, the CYC introduced The Drive for Discipline, Dedication
and Desire – its inaugural annual giving and awareness campaign. Although, CYC hosts several
corporate fundraising events during the year, this is the only fundraiser where CYC asks families,
staff and community friends for financial support. The CYC Honor Roll of Donors is listed on
the right side of this website page. We thank all of our friends of the CYC for their generous
contributions. And, the gifts keep on coming in many special ways.
CYC Head Taekwondo Coach Ed Austin expressed
his role:
“I think of the CYC like a garden, and myself like a gardener. In
a garden you have different plants, with different needs, so if a plant
needs a lot of sun you plant it in a sunny area. Other plants wither
with too much sun, so you have to plant them in the shade. Kids have
different needs, and you have to talk to them and teach them according
to their nature. Also, in a garden, different plants have value
of different kinds. Some produce healthy vegetables, others give shade,
others produce beautiful flowers and scents. Kids also have
different natural talents, and I try to make the Taekwondo program
broad enough so they can all find a way to develop themselves fully,
as unique individuals.”
CYC is working hard to keep its garden growing
and thriving! You can help in so many different ways. Give
a contribution, serve as a corporate sponsor, participate in the Annual
Golf Tournament, assist as a volunteer or just spread the word about
all the good things CYC is doing for kids.
We realize there are many other charities and causes you may support. We
hope ours will touch you in a special way. Thank you for thinking
of CYC and supporting its efforts!
