CYC Wrestling

The CYC wrestling program offers young athletes the opportunity to participate and excel in one of the world's oldest sports. The program trains and challenges wrestlers at all age groups from kindergarten through high school, and all experience levels from beginner to champion.

CYC wrestling is nationally recognized under the guidance of Head Coach Mark Halvorson. Since Halvorson took over the program in 1998, CYC has produced three Junior World Team members, one Junior Pan American Champion, 31 National Champions, 137 All-Americans, 49 Regional Champions and almost 200 State Champions.

In addition, CYC has won 58 age group team state championships. Halvorson is also the head wrestling coach at De La Salle High School, He and CYC's coaching staff have demonstrated the ability to build championship programs and train and prepare wrestlers who can compete at the state, national, and international levels.

Class Structure

There are three styles of wrestling taught at CYC: Folkstyle (high school style), Greco-Roman, and Freestyle. The Folkstyle season is in the fall and winter, and Greco-Roman and Freestyle are in the spring and summer.

All age groups and all wrestlers are taught stretching, conditioning, and wrestling techniques in a supportive and fun team environment. The coaches will increase the intensity of the workouts as the wrestler develops, providing the preparation necessary to begin participating in competitions. As wrestlers advance in technique and strength, they are grouped with similar wrestlers to keep improving and learning new skills.

Wrestling is a sport that requires hard work and sacrifice but provides the wrestler with benefits that go beyond the mat and last their whole lives including courage, self-confidence, determination, pride and teamwork.
